Recent political developments to take toll on economy

Islamabad:The Pakistan Economy Watch on Thursday said replacement of ousted PM Gilani will not help masses or country in any way.
The new prime minister will continue to focus on political struggle keeping the pressing economic issues on the backburner, it said.

The Supreme Court has again earned unparalleled respect by issuing orders regarding the disqualification of Prime Minister Gilani in a dignified manner while keeping system intact, said Dr. Murtaza Mughal, President PEW.He said that government is trying to resolve pressing economic issues including energy crisis by issuing encouraging statements and changing ministers which is wastage of time.

The masses as well as economy will continue to suffer in the new political setup, energy crisis will be intensified, borrowing will be enhanced while exodus of industry will continue, he said.
Dr. Murtaza Mughal said that erosion of ethics will continue while good governance will remain a far cry which will add to instability.
One of our leaders has developed dangerous tendency to sacrifice party stalwarts to keep himself from problems and safeguard his ill-gotten money, he observed.

He said that Memogate scandal should not be taken lightly as it was one of the most well planned conspiracies against armed forces, intelligence agencies and nuclear assets. Some elements are trying to reduce the importance of that scandal which amounts to sacrificing national interests for personal gains, Dr. Mughal said.
Memogate Judicial Commission, COAS Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and former ISI Chief Lt. Gen. (Retd) Ahmad Shuja Pasha had clearly stated that the Memogate was a real threat to the national security therefore it should be brought to proper conclusion, he added.
The government should reconsider its role lest it cross all limits of unpopularity.
