Islamabad: Former prime minister and President Pakistan Muslim League-N Muhammad Nawaz Sharif presided over a consultative meeting of central leadership of PML-N here at Punjab House today. The meeting was attended by Chairman Raja Zafar ul Haq, Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, Leader of Opposition in National Assembly Ch. Nisar Ali Khan, Senator Ishaq Dar, Senator Pervaiz Rashid, Sardar Mehtab Abbasi, Abdul Qadir Baloch and Mashahid Ullah Khan. The meeting reviewed in detail the political situation of the country in the wake of the decision of the Supreme Court.
The meeting felt that Supreme Court’s decision was the victory of law and justice. The meeting also reviewed financial and energy crises being faced by the country and acknowledged that federal government’s incompetence, corruption and policy of confrontation with judiciary has placed the country in the quagmire of multiple crises, which has put the country’s security, stability and national solidarity in jeopardy. Therefore, it is the need of the hour to make possible a result-oriented constitutional change by ensuring continuity of the democratic process.
PML-N feels that it is incumbent upon all democratic parties to play their due national role at this stage. In this regard, PML-N has invited all coalition partners of the government to agree on any other candidate, apart from the Peoples Party, to bring the country out of current crisis, to ensure elimination of loadshedding, holding of immediate, transparent and fair general elections, alongwith establishing an impartial government. If this suggestion is endorsed by the coalition partners, PML-N would give its positive response in this regard, the meeting noted.
