Islamabad: The Memogate scandal is still very much alive and it can never die down before its logical conclusion, contrary to the propaganda by certain circles having vested interests in the matter.
Highly placed sources said that some elements are terming the scam as non-issue and dead issue which is contrary to the realities on the ground.
They reminded that the affidavits deposited by the Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Perviz Kiyani and former ISI Chief Lt. Gen. (Retd) Ahmad Shuja Pasha had clearly stated that the Memogate was a real threat to the national security, which has been upheld by the Memogate Judicial Commission in its findings.
The final conclusion of Memogate is awaited as the matter is very soon coming up for the hearing in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, sources added.
The sources disclosed that in the recent past no such serious threat to national security had arisen as by the Memogate scandal.
It may be recalled here that Pakistan’s ex-Ambassador Hussain Haqqani had pursued a well-connected US businessman of Pakistani origin Mansur Ijaz to write a memo to US authorities after killing of Osama bin Laden near Abbottabad by the US forces.
Haqqani raised a false alarm of military takeover in Pakistan to push US authorities for an intervention aimed at steps against Pakistan’s prime intelligence agency and country’s vital nuclear and rocket assets, the sources said.
