ECP disqualifies Gilani as MNA

Islamabad: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday issued notification to disqualify Yusuf Raza Gilani as Member National Assembly (MNA) of Pakistan with effect from April 26, 2012.The notification issued by the ECP has also rescinded, as a consequence of disqualification, the notification of the ECP dated March 01, 2008 to the extent of declaring him as returned candidate from National Assembly constituency NA-151 Multan-IV.Acting Chief Election Commissioner Justice Shakirullah Jan convened an emergency meeting of the Commission to dispense with the constitutional duties in view of the Supreme Court decision regarding disqualification of Yusuf Raza Gilani as Prime Minister and Member National Assembly.Members of the Commission, Justice ® Riaz Kiyani, Justice ® Shahzad Akbar Khan and Justice ® Fazal-ur-Rehman were also present at the meeting. Member ECP Justice ® Muhammad Roshan Essani was at his hometown and already on a leave.
