Imran Khan demands immediate release of PTI leaders

Lahore:Chairman Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf Imran Khan has strongly condemned violent measures of Sindh Government to stop party activists from holding a peaceful rally in Karachi to express solidarity with the Independent Judiciary. He said that the Sindh Police resorted to violence to prevent the party from exercising its fundamental democratic right. PTI workers had gathered at Zainab Market to stage a rally to express solidarity with the Independent Judiciary. Police Officials resorted to brutal torture on the participants which included women and children. A number of activists including senior party leaders Dr Arif Alvi, Asad Omar, Ashraf Qureshi and Arsalan Ghumman were wounded by indiscriminate baton charge and use of water cannon. Police brutality was evident from the fact that a child has suffered serious injuries due to indiscriminate baton charge. Dozens of PTI workers and senior leaders including Dr Arif Alvi have been arrested illegally.

Terming the attack worst form of state brutality, Imran Khan stated that such coercive measures by the Government are clear evidence that the incumbent regime will use all available resources to try and stop the judiciary from functioning in an active and transparent manner. Violent measures will not deter the motivated workers of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf and the party will stand by the judiciary and will foil all attempts aimed at destroying the institution, he said.

Imran Khan demanded immediate release of party activists and warned the rulers to refrain from such cruel measures in the future.
