LAHORE-CANTT and Sadar police divisions have become criminal-friendly areas in the provincial metropolis as robbers had shot at and wounded two citizens and deprived 82 others of cash, valuables, gold ornaments, cell phones, cars and motorcycles worth millions of rupees during the last one week.
Out of the total reported incidents in both divisions around over 15 cars and 14 motorcycles were also lifted or snatched. The car lifters lifted cars from the Defence-A police jurisdiction to their satisfaction. Robbers had shot at and wounded Ajmal in Mustafabad and Hunza Bibi in the North Cantt police limits.
According to the details , Cantt division was calculated on top with 42 reported incidents of crime against property out of which nine motorcycles and nine cars were also stolen or snatched.
Ghaziabad, Mustafabad and Defence-A, B police badly failed to control crimes. The locals have registered their strong protest against police on their failure to control house robbers and vehicle thefts.
Sadar police division stood second with 40 reported incidents out of which five motorcycles and six cars were also stolen or snatched. Nawab Town, Sattukatla and Chung police provided free hand to robbers and thieves.
Sadar Division Operations SP Athar Waheed has a good repute of being upright in his affairs but since his induction a couple of weeks back, there is no respite in the incidents related to crime against property.
Iqbal Town division secured third position in crimes with 37 reported incidents out of which 13 motorcycles and two cars were also stolen or snatched. Most of the incidents related to house robbers and vehicle thefts were reported in Nawankot, Sherakot and Gulshane Iqbal police stations. It seems that robbers of other divisions have chosen Iqbal Town division gauging that SP Abdul Ghafar Qaisarani was in the lull-mood.
Model Town division which stood first during the week before the last week has now been calculated on the forth number with 32 reported incidents. A positive decline in street crime has been observed but there was no relief for the owners of vehicles as around nine motorcycles and eight cars were also lifted or snatched during the last one week. Nishtar Colony, Ghalib Market and Garden Town police proved safe havens for criminals.
City police division was calculated on the 5th number with 30 reported incidents out of which nine motorcycles and two cars were also stolen or snatched.
A visible change in heinous crimes has been observed after the induction of Umar Virk as City police division SP.
Civil Lines police division was calculated on last number with 20 reported incidents out of which two bikes and one car was also lifted or snatched.
However, locals of Moghalpura and Garhi Shahu police areas had staged strong protest demonstrations against police due to the rising robbery incidents in their respective localities. A jewelry shop was looted by the robbers in the Garhi Shahu area after which traders had registered their strong protest.
Inspector General of Police, Punjab, Haji Habib has recently inducted Muhammad Tahir Rai as DIG Operations, Lahore, with high expectations of Lahorites.
The time will tell whether his induction was a right decision or he would also fail to make the lives and properties of citizens safe.
