Rawalpindi: Pakistan Muslim League-N Senator Mrs. Nuzhat Aamir has criticized the PPP led government over what she said the sports reflect the overall government policy and presently this important sector shows that government has no any policy for the betterment of the masses. She said the sports can have a great impact on society and play very important roles in social change in many areas of the world in many aspects, for instance, peace building, health promotion, educating youth, social inclusion, and promotion of living condition.
She said this while addressing a special ceremony held to inaugurate the quarter final competitions of on going Pakistan National Junior Squash Championship being played in Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Squash Courts, Sports Complex Liaqat Bagh Rawalpindi. The quarter final competitions inauguration ceremony was also attended by among others, the president of Rawalpindi Division Squash Association (RDSA) Sheikh Aamir Waheed, Secretary Shalimar Club Syed Rizwan Mashadi, Choudhary Naeem Anwar, Qaiser Mirza, VP of Zonal Squash Qazi Nadeem, Secretary Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Squash Complex Rawalpindi Ch. Zaheer Iqbal and other office bearers of squash bodies.
While counting the benefits of sports, Senator Nuzhat Aamir said sports were also used as a tool for promoting human health. Many researches have resulted that common health problems and diseases such as obesity, mental illness, cancers, diabetes, can be prevented or risk of getting them could be lowered by experiencing proper mount of physical activities. She mentioned that sports provided opportunities for health education. “Sports help people to develop close relationship very quickly which makes easier for them to talk about serious issues such as how to protect themselves and others from various diseases including AIDS”, she added, saying more that the promotion of sports at all levels should be the top priority of every government and instead of populating and construction of merely hospitals, sports facilities must be developed at all levels.
She appreciated the sponsor Walayat Group and administration of BBS Squash Courts for holding National Junior Squash Championship.
Earlier RSDA president Sheikh Aamir Waheed said in his address said that RDSA had limited resources but had great lust for promotion of sports. He said Pakistan had won British title 30 times and ruled over the squash courts in past. He was of the view that the past glory in squash could be re-achieved if the youngster be given proper training facilities. “In this regard tournaments like National Junior Squash Championship would help a lot to explore and polish the talent.
Shalimar Club Secretary Syed Rizwan Mashadi also spoke on the occasion and determined to make better the facilities in the club. Later on RDSA president and others gave away shield to the chief guest, Mrs. Nuzhat Aamir.
