Punjab Assembly unanimously approved a resolution about Professor Waris Mir

Lahore : Punjab Assembly presided over by Speaker Punjab Assembly Ch Parvez Elahi here today (Tuesday) unanimously approved a resolution about Professor Waris Mir which was moved by N-League MPA Khalil Tahir Sindhu.

Text of the resolution says that Professor Waris Mir struggled for democracy during dictatorial regimes, Prof Waris Mir was a great journalist and teacher of his time, he taught journalism in the Punjab University for 25 years, Prof Waris Mir struggled in dictatorial regime and raised his voice for truth through his bold writings, he wrote courageous columns in different newspapers of the country. for 25 years, he represented aspirations of the people of Pakistan according to Gazette of Pakistan-2013 page 44 writing for truth and speaking as voice of the people.

It has been further stated in the resolution, Prof Waris Mir adopted a difficult path as torch bearer of human rights, freedom of expression and free thinking, Waris Mir stood firm against oppressive forces despite restrictions, threats, mental torture, he was conferred Hilal-e-Imtiaz posthumously in recognition of his great services, this house of the Punjab Assembly pays tributes in recognition of Prof Waris Mir’s national services, Waris Mir fought for democracy and freedom by pursuing his principled stand, Prof Waris Mir’s written books include Hurriyet-e-Fikr Key Mujahid, Kya Aurat Adhi Hai, Khushaamdi Sahafat Siyasat Aur Zameer Key Aseer, Waris Mir offered his life for sake of principles at the age of 48 years.

It has been demanded in the resolution that in the Punjab University New Campus near Waris Mir’s eternal resting place New Campus Underpass be renamed again as Professor Waris Mir Underpass.
