Lahore : Deputy Chief of the Jamaat e Islami, Liaqat Baloch, has said that by achieving nuclear capability in 1998, Pakistan, was able to effectively check the expansionist and aggressive designs of India and strengthen its defense.
In a statement here, he said that the political leadership from Z.A. Bhutto, Gen. Zia ul Haq, Ghulam Ishaq Khan, Benazir Bhutto and Mian Nawaz Sharif as also the military top leadership had continued work on the nuclear programme resisting all outside pressures. He said that the team of nuclear scientists including Dr. A. Q. Khan, Dr Samar Mubarak Mand and their predecessors deserved all praise from the nation for making the country’s defense impregnable.
However, he said that the nuclear Pakistan was still dependent on foreign powers and international financial institutions primarily because of corruption and incompetence of the rulers.
He said that the country would have to adopt the path of self reliance and switchover the Islamic rule and the Islamic economic system in order to dispense with foreign dependence.
Liaqat Baloch further said that the enquiry report of the Sugar commission had become controversial for protecting Prime Minister Imran khan and Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar. He said that the government should now obey the Supreme Court’s orders for determining the responsibility of the grant of subsidy.
