Lahore : On the eve of International Day of Parkinson, a 26 years’ old Shakeel Ahmed patient got his battery changed on the expenses of Punjab Government.
Renowned Neuro Surgeon, founder of DBS Treatment and Head of Punjab Institute of Neuro Sciences Prof. Dr. Khalid Mahmud told in this regard that 4 years back this patient namely Shakeel Ahmed turned up from Huddokee of Muridkay with the complaint of Parkinson disease who was given DBS method of treatment in which battery was installed on the pattern of peace-maker and now on the efforts of MPA Khurram Ejaz Chattha, Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar ordered to undertake his treatment on the expenses of Punjab Government which has been completed successfully at Punjab Institute of Neuro Sciences under his supervision.
Prof. Khalid Mahmud called it a big success and expressed hope that in the coming days more patients would be getting benefit of it.
Talking on the International Day of Parkinson Prof. Dr. Khalid Mahmud said that on this day it is a good omen that patients of Parkinson are getting healthy by modern treatment in Pakistan and now they should not go overseas and spend heavy money in foreign exchange. He said that DBS method of treatment is less in cost and pain as well and patients can go home in minimum possible time also.
Prof. Dr. Khalid Mahmud said that in the last 4 years he has completed 40 operations in which 2 patients from USA and 3 from India were also included. He said that on the International Day of Parkinson we all should reaffirm our pledge to work to control this complicated disease. He said that unfortunately in Pakistan the number of patients of Parkinson is increasing day by which have certain reasons.
He asked the media to play role in this regard and create awareness among masses not to be misguided for delay in proper treatment. He indicated the symptoms of the patients and said that in some cases patients of Parkinson are in big mental stress and they prefer to remain separated even from close friends and dear ones.
Prof. Dr. Khalid Mahmud said that we should educate each other and go for immediate treatment in Parkinson and this is the real message of International Day of Parkinson.
