Lahore : Sports Board Punjab has taken a peculiar step in the history of Punjab province by giving transgenders a chance to participate in 72nd Punjab Games 2019 competitions being organized with the collaboration of Punjab Olympic Association from April 3 to 6, 2019.
Director General Sports Punjab Nadeem Sarwar, in a statement on Saturday, informed that transgender players will exhibit their skills in race, tug-of-war and sack race events during the Punjab Games. “It’s first time in Punjab’s history that transgenders are being given an opportunity to feature in a top class sports event,” he added.
“Transgenders are also part of our society and the objective of their participation in Punjab Games is to eliminate their sense of deprivation”.
Transgender players, on Saturday, took part in race, tug-of-war and sack race practice sessions to prepare themselves for Punjab Games. DG Sports Punjab Nadeem Sarwar also witnessed their warm up competitions and admired their performance.
President Khwaja Sirah Society Saima Butt thanked DG Sports Punjab Nadeem Sarwar for giving them a chance to feature in Punjab Games competitions. “We are quite upbeat to offer thrilling performances in the 72nd Punjab Games,” she added.
