Lahore : Walled City of Lahore Authority will start the celebrations of ‘Mela Chiraghan’ (festival of lights) in collaboration with Auqaf Department Punjab from 29th March which will last till 1st April 2019.
The festival celebration will include a series of Qawali Nights to be held every night at the shrines of Sufi Saints. Faraz Ajmal Khan Qawal will perform at Darbar Madho Lal on 29th March.Afzal Ali Khan Qawal will perform at Darbar Shah Jamal on 30th March 2019. Sher Miandad Qawal will perform at Darbar Mian Mir on 31st March 2019. Mohsin Ijaz Papu Qawal will perform at Darbar Shah Turt Murad on 1st April 2019. Qawali will be held daily from 7 PM to 10 PM.
The event will be open for the masses. The kafi’s and poetry of Shah Hussain will be recited during these Qawali nights.
Every year, Lahore celebrates Mela Chiraghan at the Urs of sufi poet and saint Shah Hussain. This year the celebrations of Mela Chiraghan will be extended to other parts of Lahore so that the spirit of the festival is revived. Shah Hussain lived in Lahore in the 16th century. The urs takes place at the shrine of Madho Lal Hussain in Baghbanpura, on the outskirts of Lahore.
WCLA Director General Kamran Lashari said that Lahore is the land of Saints packed with shrines, tombs and rich Sufi culture. “It is important that the teachings of our Saints reach the masses. This is one of the oldest festivals of Lahore which was also attended by the people of various religions and castes. We have taken up the initiative to speed the festivity all around Lahore.” he said.
