Lahore : Director General Sports Punjab Nadeem Sarwar and Secretary General Punjab Olympic Association (PbOA) Idris Haider Khawaja unveiled the logo of 72nd Punjab Games 2019 during a crowded press conference at National Hockey Stadium on Thursday.
The 72nd edition of Punjab Games is scheduled to be organized from April 3 to 6, 2019 at Nishtar Park Sports Complex. Bank of Punjab is the official partner for the holding of Punjab Games.
Director Admin Javaid Chohan, Director Sports Hafeez Bhatti, Director Special Initiative Anees Sheikh, Deputy Director Tariq Wattoo and Chief Consultant SBP Shahid Faqeer Virk were also present during the press conference.
Addressing the press conference, Director General Sports Punjab Nadeem Sarwar said all the arrangements have been completed for the grand Punjab Games event. “Punjab Olympic Association is fully cooperating with us. It’s purely a joint venture of Sports Board Punjab and Punjab Olympic Association”.
“Thousands of athletes from all nine divisions will take part in 30 games. Male players will participate in 21 games, females in seven and special children will show their sports skills in two games,” he added.
Answering a question, DG Sports Punjab Nadeem Sarwar informed that draws of 30 games will be held on March 22 (Friday). “A booklet with all necessary details of the Punjab Games will be issued before the opening ceremony,” he explained.
DG Sports Punjab Nadeem Sarwar further said: “We want to make Punjab Games a memorable event and an event that reflects actual revival of sports in the province”.
Revealing the future planning, DG Sports Punjab Nadeem Sarwar said that Sports Board Punjab is planning to hold several top sports events in future after Punjab Games. “Holding night cricket tournament in Ramzan ul Mubarak is also part of our planning. Apart from this we are also considering to resume Annual Sports Calendar activities across the province”.
DG Sports Punjab Nadeem Sarwar, on this occasion, praised Pakistan Special Olympic contingent for their exceptional performance in Special Olympics World Summer Games 2019 under progress at Abu Dhabi. “Pakistani players offered wonderful performances in Special Olympics World Summer Games. We will honour and acknowledge the medal-winners properly upon their arrival in Pakistan,” he elaborated.
“The members of Pakistan contingent got top level training at SBP’s sports venues such as State of the Art International Swimming Complex, athletics tartan track, gymnasiums and cycling velodrome at Nishtar Park Sports Complex”.
Idris Haider Khawaja, on this occasion thanked Director General Sports Punjab Nadeem Sarwar for playing key role in the revival of Punjab Games after such a long time. “The talented athletes of the province must take full advantage of this grand event,” he added.
