Lahore : Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmad has said that PU is setting up Cancer Research Centre for doing research on prevention and treatment of the fatal disease and PU has also been contacted by Oxford University for collaboration in this regard.
He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of three-day short course on cancer biology at Al-Razi Hall here on Tuesday.
The event was organized by PU Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics.
On this occasion Dean Faculty of Life Sciences Prof Dr Firdaus-e-Bareen, Director Centre of Excellence in Molecular Biology Prof Dr Tayyab Husnain, Chairman MMG Prof Dr Sikandar Sultan, faculty members and a large number of students were present.
Addressing the session, Prof Niaz Ahmad urged the researchers to do research having impact on socio-economic development of the country. He said that PU would provide all resources for such research projects. He said that public money was being spent on institutions of higher learning and it was our duty to pay back to the public through presenting solutions to their problems. He urged the researchers to work very hard as hard work was always rewarded.
He said that there was also need to ensure quality and meet standards in manufacturing and services sectors.
