Lahore : Punjab Sports Minister Rai Taimoor Khan Bhatti said the players who won gold medals in international sports events are true heroes and we are proud of them.
“Punjab govt will continue to support and encourage national sports heroes,” he expressed these views at the cash award ceremony at National Hockey Stadium on Thursday.
Director Special Initiative Anees Sheikh, Director Sports Hafeez Bhatti, Deputy Director
Shahid Nizami, top sports officials and a large number of media personnel were also present
on this occasion.
Punjab Sports Minister Rai Taimoor Khan Bhatti awarded cheques of Rs one lakh each to
national wrestler Inam Butt and Haider Ali for winning gold medals in Turkey Beach
Wrestling World Championship,Commonwealth Games and Jakarta Asian Para Games
respectively. Punjab women hockey team was also awarded cash prize of Rs 50,000 for
winning silver medal in the recently-played 30 th National Women Hockey Championship.
Addressing the press conference, Punjab Sports Minister Rai Taimoor Khan Bhatti appreciated
the performance of national wrestler Inam Butt, Haider Ali and Punjab women hockey team in
their respective events. “The medal winning athletes are our assets. They made the entire
nation proud through their marvelous performances,” he added.
Punjab Sports Minister Rai Taimoor Khan Bhatti urged the youngsters of country to work hard
like wrestler Inam Butt, Haider Ali and win laurels for the country. “The promotion of sports
is among the top priorities of Punjab govt. Sports Board Punjab is holding various sports event
in the province to give talented youth sufficient opportunity to express their potential,” he
explained.
“The Inter-Tehsil phase of Annual Sports Calendar has already been completed and the next phase Inter-District sports events are set to begin. Our Winter Vacations training camp is also under in all the districts of province. We are also going to launch training camps of seven games at different cities”.
Answering a query, Punjab Sports Minister Rai Taimoor Khan Bhatti informed the mediamen
that Punjab govt is also going to organize international kabaddi event in near future. “The
teams from India, Iran and Afghanistan are expected to participate in the event. Apart from this we are also planning to hold Punjab Games and mud-wrestling competitions in 2019”.
