Lahore : The government Friday announced arrest of Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan leader Khadim Hussain Rizvi to “safeguard public life, property and honour.”
In a late night statement on the micro-blogging site twitter, Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry said “Khadim Rizvi has been taken into protective custody by police and shifted to a guest house.”
He said the TLP leader insisted to come to Rawalpindi for a protest on Nov 25, and refused governments proposal not to do so.
He said the step was taken to safeguard public life, property and order and added that it has nothing to do with the Asia Bibi case.
Fawad Chaudhry said the government did its best to convince the TLP leadership, but they refused every offer and tried to incite violence.
He urged the people to stay peaceful and calm and said the
State was responsible to fully defend the finality and respect of Holy
Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).
Minister said “the law shall take its course and it cannot be left to individuals.”
Reports said Khadim Hussain Rizvi was arrested from his
residence in Lahore.
