Lahore : The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has seized a huge cache of rotten eggs worth million of rupees while carrying out an operation in the subpar area of Chichawatni here on Wednesday.
The raid was conducted on the tip-off of PFA vigilance cell. PFA Director General Captain (R) Muhammad Usman said that as many as 126,000 rotten and spoiled eggs were stored behind of the vegetables in a cold store and had to supply on local shops in market.
PFA has registered a case against the cold store owner in the respective police station. He further said that all confiscated rotten eggs to be discarded as per the environmental protection principles at a dumping site in order to protect the environment and make it eco-friendly.
Usman said that mostly rotten eggs used in the preparations of bakery items which are injurious to consumer health.
DG told that it is strictly prohibited to store hatchery’s eggs in cold stores as per the policy which released regarding rotten eggs. PFA would take strict action against cold stores in case of non-compliance with authority’s instructions.
