Lahore : Ameer, Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Senator Siraj ul Haq, has said that Prime Minister Imran Khan’s charged address to the nation following the Supreme Court verdict in Asia case indicated that it was a government decision and not a judicial judgment.
Addressing the oath taking ceremony of the newly elected provincial and district heads of the JI from central Punjab at Mansoora, he said “we were taking it as a court judgment but now it has been proved that it is a decision of the government”. He said he was aware of the pressure on the government in this regard. However, he said, that the Prime Minister’s warning to the protestors was not tolerable.
He said that the Supreme Court had held that the trial court and the High Court had erred by sentencing Aasia to death. He said the nation must know if the country’s judicial system was trustworthy. He said that these courts had ordered the execution of scores of innocent persons and acquitted hundreds of hardened criminals.
He said it was unfortunate that the Supreme Court had prevented the media to telecast the public protest against the decision.
He appealed the people to register their protest against the SC verdict on Friday as the nation had been shocked over the apex court decision.
JI Chief for central Punjab, Amirul Azeem and newly elected district heads of the party took their oath at the occasion.
JI Secretary general Liaqat Baloch, deputy chiefs Hafiz Muhammad Idrees, Dr Farid Ahmed Piracha, and former provincial chief Mian Maqsood Ahmed also spoke on the occasion.
