Lahore : Secretary General, Jamaat e Islami, Liaqat Baloch, has called upon the government to announce support price of all major crops in order to protect the interest of the growers.
In a statement here, he said that the crops of rice, cotton and sugar cane were about to arrive in the market . He said the growers had to bear a high cost to grow these crops. He said that the growers were not given representation in the Economic Coordination Committee to offer their suggestions for the fixation of support prices.
The JI Secretary General supported the demand of the growers to fix the support price of super paddy at Rs. 2500 , sugar cane at Rs. 280 per maund and Phutty atr Rs. 4000. Pr maund.
He welcomed the 50 per cent subsidy for the electricity tariff for the growers and stressed that the government should also reduce the prices of agriculture inputs, pesticides and dairy products.
