Lahore : Media workers under the Joint Action Committee , have protested against the terminations and delay in salaries at Punjab Assembly chowk.They boycotted the assembly session’s proceeding and hold their protest in corridor of the assembly .
Media workers almost from every media house joined the protest and shouted slogans in favour of their demands .The journalist leaders including Kh Farrukh Saeed , Shahbaz Mian , Shahzad Hussain Butt , Rana Azim , Naeem Hanif , Rehman Bhutta , Arshad Ansari , Azam Ch , Kh Naseer , Zia Ullah Niazi and others given fierce speeches and warned the government not to stand by with the owners of the media houses otherwise they would not allow them to run government affairs . They demand the restoration of media workers who were made jobless without any reason and vowed to continue their protest till a single member restored.
PML-N Malik Ahmad expressed solidarity with the journalist community and assured that they will raise voice in their favour at every forum including the Punjab Assembly.
Provincial minister Fayyaz ul Hassan Chohan also addressed the journalist protest and said the government will not issue advertisement bill to any media house which will not pay the salaries of the staff.
Later ; the protesters went to Assembly Hall Chowk and hold procession where Human Rights activist , representatives of the legal fraternity and Punjab government representatives including minister Mian Mehmood ur Rasheed , Fayyaz Chohan and spokesman CM Punjab Shahbaz Gill reached there and assured every possible support to the journalist community.
It is important to mention here that Dunya News ,City 42 ,ARY , Nawa-i-Waqt Group , Khabrain ,Express and other groups have fired hundreds of workers in a few days and more people are being terminated almost day.
