Lahore : Secretary Sports Punjab Muhammad Amir Jan has expressed his grief and sorrow over the sad demise of Olympic cyclist Muhammad Ashiq, who represented Pakistan in the 1960 and 1964 Olympics. Ashiq breathed his last just six days shy of his 83rd birthday.
In his condolence message on Thursday, Secretary Sports Punjab Muhammad Amir Jan expressed his heartfelt sympathies with the members of the bereaved family and prayed to Allah Almighty to grant courage to them to bear this irreparable loss with fortitude. He also prayed that the departed soul may rest in eternal peace.
Ashiq underwent an operation for gallstones, and according to his son-in-law Muhammad Nadeem he recovered, but then died in the early hours of Sunday.“He was not well since last year and had an operation in January.
