Lahore : Punjab contingent has made magnificent beginning of 2nd edition of Quaid-i-Azam Inter-Provincial Games winning 49 medals in the first two days of the event at Liaqat Gymnasium, Pakistan Sports Board on Tuesday.
Punjab players displayed wonderful skills and overwhelmed their opponents quite comfortably in different competitions.
Punjab’s tally of medals include 23 gold, 18 silver and 8 bronze medals.
Out of 49 medals, the female players have won 15 gold, 14, silver and three bronze medals while Punjab male players managed to clinch 8 gold, 4, silver and five bronze medals.
Secretary Sports Punjab Muhammad Aamir Jan has congratulated Punjab players for their outstanding performance in the first phase of the Quaid-i-Azam Inter-Provincial Games. “We are proud of our medal winners in the Quaid-i-Azam Inter-Provincial Games,” he added.
In the athletics meet, Punjab girls grabbed 5 gold and same number of silver.
In badminton girls secured 5 gold, 6 silver and one bronze medals. In judo event, Punjab girls took 3 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals while karate girls got 2 gold medals so far.
On the boys’ side, they took 6 gold and one bronze medal in judo. They also won 2 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals in athletics event.
In karate contest, Punjab boys have to content with 2 silver and one bronze medals.
In snooker, Usman, Mudassar Raza and Umer have confirmed their place in semifinals by defeating their rivals with ease.
Punjab kabaddi team also reached semifinal stage after thrashing Islamabad and Khyber Pakhtunkhawa by 32-10 and 45-18 respectively.
Punjab boys and girls badminton teams sailed into the final after defeating their respective opponents.
