Lahore : Punjab Food Authority has sealed four canteens of different educational institutions over poor food hygiene issues during special drive carried out against academia in Gujranwala city on Friday.
According to details, PFA has sealed one each canteen in Punjab University Gujranwala Campus, Punjab College for Boys, University of Sargodha Gujranwala Campus and Gift University of Gujranwala.
PFA’s watchdogs under the supervision of PFA Director Operations (North) Bilawal Abro have raid on several canteens for examining the food quality and their kitchens where food was being prepared for students.
Bilawal Abro said that canteens were sealed for using rancid oil and expire food articles, improper cleanliness arrangements, poor IPM system, presence of insects and many multiple food hygiene issues. Apart from that, workers of the unit did not have medical certificates.
He further said that PFA have issued several warning notices to them for improving food and follow PFA’s regulations but they did not take it serious on which PFA has taken strict against them. He said that thousands of students thronged to canteens something to eat but unfortunately canteens failed to meet the food standards.
