Lahore : Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zafar Moeen Nasir has called upon the students and faculty members to work on innovative ideas which could serve the country as well as society.
He was addressing the concluding ceremony of international conference on solid state physics organized by PU Centre of Excellence in Solid State Physics (CSSP).
Former GCU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khaleeq ur Rehman, CSSP Director Prof Dr Shahzad Naseem, international delegates, researchers from various academic institutions of country and a large number of students were present on the occasion.
There were 20 keynote lectures delivered by the experts from UK, Denmark, Brazil, Italy, Turkey, Germany, China, Bangladesh and Pakistan. Around 60 invited talks were given by researchers from UK, Germany, Korea, Malaysia and Pakistan.
Addressing the ceremony, Dr Zafar Moeen Nasir said that this was the one of the basic responsibilities of universities to serve humanity through creation of new knowledge. He said that we must bring positive change in the society through innovative projects.
He appreciated Prof Dr Shahzad Naseem on taking several initiatives in the centre and successfully organizing the conference.
Prof Dr Shahzad Naseem said that the conference had provided an excellent opportunity for the researchers and students to interact with each other and share ideas and experiences.
He said that a total of over 500 papers were presented at the conference with around 250 posters and this is an unprecedented number in any of the conferences in Pakistan.
He said that selected papers from the conference will be published by 5 IF journals associated with the conference. He said there were 2 symposia held during the conference; one on WUN – Spin and the other on diagnostics for life sciences.
Later, life time achievement awards were presented to former professors of the centre and souvenirs were presented to international delegates, guests and conference organizers.
Financial support was provided by the HEC and PHEC, while GCW University Sialkot and Abbottabad University of Science and Technology were co-hosts.
