Lahore : The Provincial Minister of Human Rights and Minorities Affairs, Khalil Tahir Sandhu presented a Book- Let to the media persons prepared by the Department of Human Rights, today in Punjab Assembly on the occasion of the :Meet the press: in the press gallery of Punjab Assembly.
Minister Human Rights briefed media persons about initiatives taken by the department to secure Human Rights all over the province.
He told that Millions of rupees have been allocated in the present fiscal year for the brilliant students of minorities whereas implementation on five percent quota in total number of advertised government jobs has been ensured and monitored, the minister said Punjab government had already taken various initiatives along with effective legislation to protect the rights of minorities etc. These include: establishing Minorities Development Fund, implementing on 5% quota in government jobs for minorities, disbursing education scholarships to the students of minorities and creating interfaith harmony among different religions, he added.
He further said that the Government of the Punjab has set up a taskforce to fast-forward women’s empowerment agendas, including working closely with UN Women to create the policy environment for women informal workers in the province.
He said the Punjab government had taken a number of concrete steps for the welfare of common citizens, including promotion and protection of equal human rights, peace, tolerance and religious harmony as Human Rights Defenders (HRDs) had been providing legal assistance to the victims of any injustice and cruelty in all the districts of the province.
Provincial Members of Minority Shahzad Munshi, secretary HRMA Asim Iqbal, Media Persons and officers of Human Rights were present there.
