Pasteurization is only solution to eliminate milk adulteration: DG PFA

Lahore : Director General Punjab Food Authority Noor ul Amin Mengal said that pasteurizing is only solution to eliminate the sale of loose milk and its adulteration. PFA is struggling day and night work in order to ensure the sale of healthy milk in market.

He expressed these views during addressed the consultative meeting regarding implementation of Pasteurization Law here on Wednesday. Representatives from milk industry, farmer association, packing industry and experts have participated in the meeting.

The meeting was jointly chaired by Punjab Food Authority (PFA) Director General Noor ul Amin Mengal and Universal of Animal and Veterinary Sciences (UVAS) Vice Chancellor Dr Talat Mehmood Pasha.

Mengal said that complete elimination of adulteration milk is not possible until intense vigilance on sale of loose milk. He said that PFA has been passed the pasteurizing law and sale of loose milk will be completely banned within time span of five years. Pasteurized milk packed after boiling on a specific temperature for a set period of time and kills harmful bacteria during this process, he said.

Dr Talat Mehmood Pasha said that implementation of pasteurization law is not difficult if all stakeholders play their part of role. He said that university has established experimental pasteurization plant which is successfully running. He said that most of the countries are following pasteurization process and Pakistan should not delay to adopt it.
