Mandi Bahauddin (Sher Gondal) : District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Javed-ul- Hassan Chishti has said under vision of The Chief Justice Lahore High Court “Alternate Dispute Resolution” (ADR) system has proved beneficial as since its induction many family and criminal cases had been settled amicably through mediation and free consent of parties.
He was addressing a workshop held at ADR centre established in court premises. Judges, bar members and media persons attended the workshop.
He said the High Court had appointed two civil judges to dispose of disputes when the parties desire to settle the disputed issues between them.
The parties gather at ADR Centers where they negotiate terms and condition for compromise. This process takes place in a friendly atmosphere. Once they settle dispute through their mutual consent and conciliation presiding officer ADR Centre record their statements and refer them to the concerned court for final decision. Thus the dispute is settled and the parties are saved from long adjudication.
The DSJ said ADR Centre was playing a positive role not only in deciding cases through mediation but also it is contributing to administration of speedy and transparent justice to litigants.
However he said there was need to aware the public about importance of resolving disputes by ADR Centre.
He called upon the participants to play their part in creating awareness among the litigant public to seek disposal of their cases by ADR Centre through mediation as it would save them from lengthy process of litigation which is expensive in terms of expenditure and time. Resolution of dispute would also bury difference between the parties and promote harmony and brotherhood bond among them.
DPO who was present in the workshop said police would give full support to ADR Centre in resolving dispute through mediation.
