Lahore : A high-level meeting was held here today under the chair of Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif. Report about non-admission of an expecting woman to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Raiwind and the incident of her child delivery in the open was presented before the meeting.
The Chief Minister expressed his utmost displeasure over non-provision of healthcare facilities to the pregnant woman in the said hospital. He said that criminal negligence has been shown by depriving a hapless pregnant woman to her right of treatment. He ordered to take legal action against the persons responsible for this mishap and said that they will be taken to task.
The Chief Minister said that he has visited this hospital over half a dozen occasions and health ministers and secretaries also inspected this hospital but despite it, the situation could not have been improved. Resources worth billions of rupees have been given to serve the ailing humanity but despite it, the needy patient was not given timely treatment in the hospital and what has been done with her is highly deplorable. Had an effective monitoring system of the health department been in place, the incident would not have occurred, he added.
He made it clear that he is answerable to Almighty Allah, as well as to the people, and fulfillment of the responsibility given by the people is his duty. This tragic incident has also exposed the weaknesses of the system, he added.
Provincial Ministers Kh. Salman Rafiq, Kh. Imran Nazir, Secretary Medical Education, Secretary Primary and Secondary Healthcare and other officials attended the meeting.
