Lahore : PML-N candidate Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has been elected Prime Minister with overwhelming majority.
National Assembly session for the election of new Prime Minister chaired by speaker Ayaz Sadiq.
The elections for leader of the house was merely a ceremonial exercise as any candidate for PM needed 177 votes and PML-N had 188 votes,JUI-F 13 votes and MQM support with 24 votes made sure the victory of the PML-N candidate even before the poll.
As the speaker announced results, the house lauded with the slogans of ” wazir-e-azam, Nawaz Sharif”.
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi got 221 votes ,PPP’s Naveed Qamar 47, PRO’s Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad 33 and JI’s Sahibzada Tariq got 4 votes.
