Lahore : Provincial Minister for Information & Culture and Excise & Taxation, Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman has said that drugs addiction is a curse and every walk of life will have to play an active role for safeguarding young generation from this social evil. He said it is important to highlight sense of hatred among young generation against addiction besides parents should also keep a vigilant eye on the company of their children so that no one can motivate them towards smoking or addict person towards drugs.
He expressed these views while addressing as chief guest a seminar held on the topic of “our dream addiction free Punjab” held regarding anti-narcotics campaign with the cooperation of Information & Culture Department and Excise & Taxation Department at Alhamra Hall today.
Secretary Excise & Taxation Dr. Bilal Sufi, DG Excise & Taxation Muhammad Akram Ashraf Gondal, Additional DG Excise Masood ul Haq, Additional Secretary Information & Broadcasting Zaman Rai and Director Arts Council Capt. (R) Atta Muhammad were also present on the occasion.
Mujtaba Shuja ur Rehman said that Punjab government has imposed a ban on use of every kind of narcotics including smoking in public and private educational institutions and responsibilities have been assigned to the heads of educational institutions after formulating a detailed roadmap in this regard.
He told that focal persons have also been appointed with regard to anti-drugs in educational institutions and all sources are being utilized for keeping young generation away from drugs.
He said in the light of 18th constitutional amendment, Provincial Excise & Taxation Department is taking all out steps for eradicating narcotics for constitution of a healthy society and purging the society of menace of drugs forever.
On the conclusion of function, cash prizes were distributed among girl and boy students of different universities of Punjab participating in essay writing regarding drugs, speech, photography and paintings contests.
Khalid Saeed of UET was given first cash prize of Rs. 30 thousand in essay writing competition, Rabia Javed of Government College University was awarded second cash prize of Rs. 20 thousand while Rs. 10 thousand cash prize was given to Bilal Yasin scoring third position. In photography competitions, Rs. 30 thousand were given to Muhammad Zubair of University of Punjab, Rs. 20 thousand to Tayyab Mehmood of Expo Center while third prize of Rs. 10 thousand was given to Haseeb Ahmed of National College of Arts.
Similarly, cash prize of Rs. 30 thousand was given to Shehrbano of Government College University, Rs. 20 thousand to Maham Masood of Lahore Garrisons University and Rs. 10 thousand cash award was given to Zorair Nasir in English speech contests.
In Urdu speech contests, cash prize of Rs. 30 thousand was given to Mugheer Rana of University of Punjab, Rs. 20 thousand to Muhammad Ehtisham of GC University Faisalabad and Rs. 10 thousand to Kashf Sehar Rana.
