Tajamul Foundation to construct a new building in Mayo Hospital

Lahore : Construction of new building of North Medical Ward of Mayo Hospital would start immediate after Eid holidays. It would be a state-of-the-art modern building at the site of the old building which was declared dilapidated and vacated from the patients in 2008. The total expenditure of the project is about Rs. 150 million. Tajamul Foundation would bear all expenses.

In this connection, a prayer ceremony was held at Mayo Hospital at the site of the building today. Secretary Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Najam Ahmed Shah, Acting Vice Chancellor KEMU Prof. Qazi Saeed, Principal Institute of Ophthalmology, Prof. Asad Aslam Khan, Chairperson Tajamul Foundation Begum Laila Nusrat, her husband Mian Nusrat, Prof. of Medicines KEMU Dr. Sajid Ubaid Ullah, MS Mayo Hospital Dr. Tahir Khalil, Dr. Zahid Pervaiz and Project Coordinator Prof. of Orthopedics Surgery Dr. Syed Muhammad Awais, Prof. Dr. Abdul Bari from Indus Hospital Karachi and other notables attended the ceremony.

While appreciating the spirit of humanitarian services of Begum Laila Nusrat, Chairperson Tajamul Foundation, Secretary Health Najam Ahmed Shah said that serving the ailing humanity is a great service and the foundation has set a golden example for others in the month of Holy Ramadan.

He also appreciated the efforts of Project Coordinator Prof. Muhammad Awais for materializing the project with the collaboration of Tajamul Foundation.

Prof. Muhammad Awais informed that the old building of the North Medical Ward was declared dilapidated and unusable, after that, it was vacated and the patients were shifted to other places. He said that now it has been decided to build a four storey building including basement.

The total covered area of the building would be 38500 square feet. A latest air conditioning system and lift would be installed. The new building of North Medical Ward would be consisted of 80 beds and a lecture theatre for medical students.

Prof. Muhammad Awais further informed that the building would be constructed on turnkey basis which would be completed within twelve months. He said that immediate after Eid holidays, construction work of the project would be started.

A monitoring committee has been constituted to look after the construction work of the project. Additional Chief Secretary Shamail Ahmad Khawaja would be the Chairman of the committee while Begum Laila Nusrat, renowned social worker Ghiyas ud Din known as “Baba Gee”, Major General AM Tariq and Prof. Syed Muhammad Awais Orthopedic Surgeon would be the members of the committee.

Talking to the media, Secretary Health Najam Ahmed Shah said that construction of a state of the art building at a huge cost is a good example of public and private partnership collaboration. He said that friends of Mayo Hospital are also collaborating with other projects of the hospital.

He directed concerned persons that the new building should be constructed on fast track basis so that it could be completed within ten months.
