Lahore : Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has decided to establish his office at Punjab Assembly to mingle up with MPAs. The most powerful Chief Minister of Punjab rarely visited Provincial Legislative Assembly after being elected CM and never allowed even the ministers to have easy access for meeting. But the changing political situation of the country forced him to review his policy regarding meeting with MPAs.
After a long absence of around 223 days, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif eventually ended on Friday his ‘self-imposed exile’ from the Punjab Assembly and attended the budget session 2017-18.
“Shahbaz really disrespected the honourable house by staying away from a number of assembly proceedings, which reflects his authoritarian mindset.
Today , Shahbaz Sharif attended the budget session of the Punjab Assembly and held meetings with Members of the Assembly belonging to different districts at his chamber. He also listened to the concluding speech of Finance Minister Dr. Ayesha Ghaus Pasha relating to the budget and congratulated her over the wonderful concluding speech. He also appreciated her performance.
The Chief Minister left the Punjab Assembly before Jummah prayer.
While talking to MPAs , Shahbaz Sharif said that the provincial government has saved precious resources worth Rs.220 billion in different development projects; adding that no such example of savings to the tune of billions of rupees exists in the 70 years of history of the country. The past rulers who plundered the national resources mercilessly and got their loans worth billions of rupees waved off are bragging about their piety today.
The Chief Minister said that credit goes to Pakistan Muslim League-N government that it has promoted a culture of transparency and said that even the opponent could not question transparency in our projects.
He said that 2017 is the year of completion of promises made with the people and vowed that the government will fulfill its promises made with the people, because the pivot of the PML-N politics is selfless service to the people.
Shahbaz Sharif said that his purpose of life is to serve the people and as long as he is alive, he will continue to serve the people. He said that the elements indulged in purposeless criticism of public welfare initiatives are an enemy to people’s development and prosperity as some of the political elements are unnerved over fast development of the country.
He said that the past rulers of Punjab have made graveyards of corruption during the dictatorship era and instead of solving the problems of the people further increased their problems.
Similarly, the development and prosperity of the common man was impeded through sit-ins and lockdowns and now these elements are afraid that the completion of most transparent projects will bury their residual politics. He said that the PML-N government will continue the journey of selfless public service under the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
The Chief Minister further said that provincial budget 2017-18 is people-friendly, and the largest development budget has been presented in the history of the province which will help in improving the quality of life of the people besides ensuring composite development and strengthening of the economy.
He asked the public representatives to work with more zeal and energy to serve the people better and monitor the public welfare projects along with their timely completion.
