
The participating sides include Punjab Colors, Punjab Whites, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Baluchistan, Islamabad and United Women Hockey Academy.
The opening ceremony saw an impressive march past by the competing teams.
Chairman PIA, Irfan Elahi, who was the chief guest, formally inaugurated the Gold Cup.
He was accompanied by the President Pakistan Hockey Federation, Brigadier (rtd) Khalid Sajjad Khokhar and Secretary General, Shahbaz Ahmad.
Chairman PIA spoke about the airline’s long association with hockey. He assured PIA’s continuous support for the national game despite the financial constraints.
President PHF also expressed optimism, “Pakistan hockey’s revival has begun and soon we will see encouraging results from our national teams. The recent success of Pakistan’s under 18 team in Australia has proved that the talent cup board is not bare.”
On the opening day, three matches were played.
-Punjab Colours defeated KPK 5-1
-UWHA defeated Islamabad 6-0
-Punjab Whites defeated Sindh 6-0
