Lahore : Provincial Higher Education Minister Syed Raza Ali Gillani has said that a total of Rs. 2.28 billion have been allocated by the Punjab government for foreign languages program. Under this program, 500 students would be sent abroad for learning international languages including Chinese and Turkish. The purpose of this beneficial program is to develop a pool of foreign languages experts to reap maximum benefits of the future economic prospects of the CPEC related investments.
He said this while addressing the ceremony held in honor of students going to China for learning Chinese language at 18-H model town. The students would study Chinese language under a Punjab government funded program for two years there. He said that Punjab government has introduced institutional reforms to prepare the students for reaping the benefits in wake of CPEC project. For this purpose, a merit-based program has been introduced to help the students to study foreign languages.
Along with it, the higher education sector was also being modernized according to international needs so that the students could be developed as best professional managers. We don’t want our students end up as educated jobless, he added. He observed that CPEC project carries numerous vital benefits for the country and the Punjab has already started taking solid steps to fully explore the arising options.
He paid tributes to the vision of Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif who visualized this important program and provided funds as Rs.4.5 million is the cost of single student’s study.
He asked the students to work hard in China to bring laurels home as the world is looking towards Pakistan. He disclosed that the number of girl students would be enhanced so that they could equally benefit from this beneficial program. Spokesman Punjab government Muhammad Ahmad Khan and Consul General of China Long Dingbing also addressed the function.
Later, Raza Gillani distributed laptops among the students.
