US Consul General Yuriy Fedkiw calls on CEO Railways Javed Anwar

Lahore : US Consul General, Lahore Yuriy Fedkiw, met CEO Railways Javed Anwar here at Railways Headquarters Lahore. He was accompanied by the Political Secretary Mr Andrew.

US Consul General expressed his gratitude on procurement of 55 GE locomotives by Pakistan Railways .

CEO Javed Anwar told him that Pakistan Railways has been using GE locomotives in past and in coming days it needs new locomotives to replace the old, retired fleet. He said that this is fruit of timely compliance and seriousness in functioning that we have gained trust of international companies like GE, Siemens and International financial institutions like ADB.

CEO further elaborated need of high powered engines for Sahiwal Coal power project for which 5 freight trains would run daily from Karachi to Sahiwal carrying more than 12000 tons of coal.

Similarly, PR is looking forward the same coal freight operation up to Jamshoro coal power plant in near future. CEO said that by strengthening infrastructure and electrifying the track from Peshawar to Karachi, Pakistan can play its due role between Central Asian Republics and China. Dependence on rail track would also help making environment clean. US Consul General discussed the economic opportunities linked with rail track stretching from Pakistan to Iran and Turkey, linking it with Eastern Europe, he said CPEC would revolutionize the economic activity in the region.

He appreciated the commitment and pace of Pakistan Railways with which it has doubled it’s income in a short span of 3 years. He valued efforts and zeal of Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique for the turnaround of this organization and appreciated his team.

CEO presented him coffee table book on history of Pakistan Railways along with a shield and thanked him on behalf of Minister for Railways for his precious time. Assistant General Managers, traffic, locomotive, Mechanical, and other Senior officers were also present in the meeting.
