Mandi Bahauddin (Sher Gondal ): Planting of olive, peaches and grapes gardens have begun in this district.
Assistant Director Agriculture Muhammad Iqbal said while briefing a meeting of agriculture advisory committee held here the other day with Assistant Commissioner Mandi sub division Shabbir Cheema in chair. He said their growth was progressing well and some of the plants had started producing fruit. He further disclosed that on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Muzaffar Sial drip and sprinkling irrigation system was introduced and with this system this district has joined list of districts growing and producing fine quality of grapes in the country. Experience of growing olive and grapes also had been successful, he added.
During last year Rabih crop produce exceeded the target and this year wheat crop was sowed over more than 106000 Acres which is growing well. He said it was a matter of pleasure that government was running a comprehensive program for improving economy of farmers.
He said under Kisan Package 14227 farmers had been registered for Kisan Cards. 39 million had been given agriculture loan to framers.
Appreciating efforts of Agriculture Department the AC said further awareness of Kisan Package and its benefits should be spread among farmers for increasing agriculture produce for autarky in food items.
He said to meet shortage of irrigation water solar energy irrigation would be introduced soon and farmers would be given 80% subsidy for installing solar energy tube wells.
