Shabbir Iqbal wins All Pakistan Garrison Open Golf Tournament

Lahore :  A passionate competition was witnessed between national level golfers during the All Pakistan Garrison Open Golf Tournament that was held at the lush green Lahore Garrison Golf and Country Club (LGG & CC) from 26-29 January 2017. Commander Lahore Corps, Lieutenant General Sadiq Ali who is the Patron in Chief LGG & CC was the chief guest and awarded prizes to the winners.

Muhammad Shabbir Iqbal of Islamabad Golf Club with 14 under was declared the winner of the tournament. While Matloob Ahmed of LGG & CC stood second with 9 under and Hamza Amin from Islamabad Golf Club stood third with 7 under. The hole in one was struck by Roman Khan of Peshawar Golf and Country Club.

In the amateur’s category, the 1st prize in gross was won by Nadeem Aslam from LGG&CC with 219 gross. The 2nd position went to Mohsin Zafar from Lahore Gymkhana, he played 224 gross.

Muhammad Saqib of LGG&CC was 3rd with 227 gross. While in net the 1st position was won by Ahmed Baig of LGG&CC with 213 net, the 2nd position went to Col (retd) Rustam Ali Chatha of Gujranwala Golf Club with 217 net. The 3rd position was won by Khalid Mahmood of Rawalpindi Golf Club with 218 net.

In the senior amateur’s gross category, Mr. Tariq Mehmood of LGG&CC won first prize with 76 points. While the 2nd and the 3rd position went to Lt Col (retd) Asif Mehdi and Lt Col (retd)  Muhammad Shafi of LGG&CC with 77 and 79 scores respectively. While in net the 1st position was won by Lt Col (retd)  Manzoor Hussain of LGG&CC with 70 net, the 2nd position went to Mr. Abdul Haseeb of LGG&CC with 71 net. The 3rd position was won by  Col (Retd) Tashfeen Baig of LGG&CC with 71 net.

In the veteran’s category, the 1st prize in gross was won by Brig Iftikhar Ahmed Khan with 42 gross. The 2nd position went to Brig (Retd) Aman Ullah Khan, he played 46 gross. Group Captin (Retd)  Asim Durrani was 3rd with 46 gross. They all were from LGG&CC Club. While in net the 1st position was won by Maj (Retd) Salahuddin of LGG&CC with 39 net, the 2nd position went to Athar Sherwani of Lahore Gymkhana Club with 39 net. The 3rd position was won by Col (Retd) Tajammal Hussain of  LGG&CC with 40 net.

In the senior professionals, Akbar Ali of Lahore Gymkhana got the 1st prize with 72 gross. The 2nd position was shared among four players, Muhammad Iqbal, George Masih of Lahore Gymkhana, Imdad Hussain of LGG&CC and Mehmood Kiyani of Islamabad Club scored 75 Gross.

More than 482 golfers including professionals, amateurs, veterans, ladies and upcoming youngsters took part in the All Pakistan Garrison Open Golf Tournament. Mohammed Tariq of Islamabad Golf Club was the defending champion. Teams from Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Peshawar, Royal Palm and Lahore Garrison Golf Clubs participated in the four-day 18-Holes Tournament that concluded on January 29 today.
