Children Hospital is the only one which is doing Cardiac surgery in children

Lahore : Medical Director Children Hospital Lahore Prof. Ahsan Waheed Rathore has said that Children hospital is the only facility in the country which is doing Cardiac surgery in children of all ages in Pakistan. Patients are coming from all provinces. He further said that 800 major and 1000 minor surgeries were done annually free of cost. Annually Rs 280 million are being spent just on the medicines and disposables.

On the special initiative of Chief Minister Punjab 90 bedded cardiology and Cardiac surgery wards and 3 new Cardiac surgery operation theatres with 20 bedded ICU facility has been just completed and will start functioning next month. 600 bedded Indoor and 16 operations block have also been completed with a total cost of Rs 3750 million.

Prof. Rathore said that Special funds of Rs 190 million have been given by the Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif  for up gradations of cardiology and Cardiac surgery facilities this year.

In last few years Children Hospital Multan, Institute of cardiology Faisalabad , Rawalpindi has started paediatric cardiology and small surgeries ( intervention cardiology). All specialists working in these institutes are trained at Children’s Hospital Lahore. PIC has also started Cardiac surgery of children with the assistance of Children’s Hospital Cardiac Surgeon team. Annually about 40 thousand children born in Pakistan with cardiac complications, he added.
