Lahore : Mangla Corps lifted the Army Polo Championship-2016 beating Rawalpindi Corps 7-1/2 to 6 in a hotly contested final at the Army Polo Ground that concluded here on Sunday. Meanwhile, Lahore Corps team won the Tent-Pegging Championship-2016.
Interestingly the winners started the match with a handicap of half goal and conceded three goals in the first Chukkar. Veteran Maj General (retd) Asfandar Yar Patudi scored two goals and Major Faizan scored one. Khushi with his strong horsemanship led the Mangla Corpse to fight hard in the second Chukkar and reduced the margin with his two beautiful goals. Major Haseeb also scored a goal. However, the Rawalpindi Corps maintained their lead through Saqib’s back hand goal. In the third Chukkar Khushi again led his team with his two goals to take lead. Gen Patudi struggled hard to maintain his team’s supremacy and also scored a goal. Horsemen from both teams demonstrated high level of skill and speed in the decisive fourth Chukkar. Major Haseeb of Mangla Corps came back excellently to score two goals with his back hand hits while Saqib from the Rawalpindi Corps scored a goal on penalty. The final was witnessed by a large number of spectators who enjoyed every moment of an exciting final.
Meanwhile, Naik Arshad of Lahore Corps got first position in the Individual Lance Competition. Sepoy Nawaz of Lahore Corps grabbed second position while Lance Dafadar Khushi Muhammad of Mangla Corps got third position. Mangla Corps got first position in Pair Lance Competition. Lahore Corps teams grabbed second and third positions. Rawalpindi Corps got first position in the Team Competition while Mangla Corps and Lahore Corps secured second and third positions respectively.
Students of Lahore Garrison Schools Mahad Fida, Zarsher Masood, Khadija Zulfiqar and Zainab Zulfiqar also demonstrated their skill in an exhibition Tent-Pegging match.
At close Chief Guest Corps Commander Lahore Lt-General Sadiq Ali HI (M) distributed prizes amongst the players.
