Lahore : Provincial Minister for Information & Culture Mian Mujtaba Shuja ur Rehman has said that government firmly believes in freedom of Press as a lasting democratic system depends upon free media. He said that media-men will be extended full cooperation by Punjab government in the performance of their professional responsibilities.
He expressed these views while talking to office-bearers of Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors at a local hotel, here today. Advisor on Information & Culture Malik Ahmed Ali was also present on the occasion.
The Minister said that due to increasing importance of media, it rightly deserves to be called fourth pillar of the state. He said that world has become a global village and besides print and electronic media, social media tools are also being used for expressing public opinion. He said that government is trying to provide maximum facilities to media-men.
The Minister said that government attaches high importance to media for information and public feedback. He said that educated youth have vast opportunities in this sector. The Minister announced that setting up of an institute for professional training of those associated with media will be considered and the problems of journalists will be resolved on priority basis.
