Lahore : Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif presided over 5th meeting of Governing Body of Lahore Development Authority (LDA) which took a number of important decisions for the provision of better services and facilities to the citizens.
The meeting also granted approval to the setting up of sub-offices of LDA at Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib and Kasur as well as decided to take indiscriminate action against those setting up illegal housing societies.
It was also decided to conduct a survey regarding illegal constructions and non-construction of buildings on plots within stipulated period.
The meeting decided to develop land on both sides of Sherpao Bridge for commercial purposes and select best consultants for this purpose as well as develop business and financial model. It was also decided on the occasion to take action against those who got double payments of plots from LDA and National Highway Authority in 80s as well as proceed against officers and staff at that time who made these payments.
The Chief Minister while speaking on the occasion said that there is a need to take immediate measures for facilitating the citizens and institutional system should be further improved for this purpose. He said that time has come to take stern action under the law against such elements as loot the hard earned money of the people by developing illegal housing societies. He said that the elements involved in fraud with the people deserve no leniency and they should be behind the bars.
ShahbazSharif directed to evolve a consolidated master plan of Lahore Division and said that immediate measures should be taken for setting up development authorities in those cities which are rapidly developing. He said that it will help in provision of better services to the citizens.
He said that a roadmap should be evolved immediately with regard to establishment of development authorities and international consultants be selected for drainage and sanitation projects in Lahore and other big cities. He directed that a comprehensive planning should be made for resolving parking and encroachment problems. He also issued instructions for setting up a sub-committee for amendments with regard to delegation of some powers to Additional Director General of the authority and said that a consolidated system should be devised for giving technical allowance to engineers on the basis of efficiency.
Director General LDA gave a detailed briefing regarding efficiency of LDA and provision of facilities to the citizens. Khawaja Ahmed Hasaan, Members Provincial Assembly Rana Muhammad Arshad, Yaqoob Nadeem, Bao Akhtar Ali, Arif Khan Sandhila, Secretary Local Government, Secretary Housing, Commissioner Lahore Division and other members of Governing Body attended the meeting.
