Aurat Foundation condoles the death of Azhar Jafri

azhar-jafriLahore : Aurat Foundation is deeply saddened to hear Azhar Jafri’s death.

He was an iconic photographer and committed to democracy and human rights. He was witnesses of Pakistani democratic, women and human right struggle and movement. Mr. Jafri was himself a “Hero” for his work and political ideology by capturing scenes that regime would not like to be exposed, but still they define history of the movement of restoration of democracy, women and human right struggle.

During a condolence meeting with Aurat Foundation official, Ms. Mumtaz Mughal, Resident Director Aurat Foundation said; “We have lost a legendary photo journalist”. Women right activist will never forget his contributions for the women movement. His wonderful photography will, however, remain a source of inspiration for us, especially the Pakistan Women day 12th Feb 1986”.

The Women Action Forum held a curtain raiser event at the Press Club on 11th February 2014, where awards were given to Azhar Jafri and Habi Jalib in commemoration of a violent day under Ziaul Haq’s regime.

“May the departed soul rest in eternal peace and may the Almighty give his family members the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.”

Participants were Mumtaz Mughal, Resident Director AF, Abid Ali, Nabeela Shaheen Advocate, Zubair Yousaf, Sara Sheraz, Anjum Rafiq, Abid Ali, Anjum Raza, Hasna Cheema, Sumaira Saleem, Rizwana Waseem, Asim Paracha and others.
