First international Endoscopic Ultrasound workshop commenced at Lahore

Prof Ghias Ud Din Tayyab Lahore : First international Endoscopic Ultrasound workshop,organized by Lahore General Hospital with the collaboration of Asian Ultrasound Group, has commenced at a local hotel from today.

Principal Post Graduate Medical Institute and Ameer Ud Din Medical College Prof.Ghias Ud Din Tayyab presided over the inaugural session of the workshop which is scheduled to be continued for three days. Dr.Muhammad Khalid Hassan from Florida Hospital, Orlando, Dr. Ali Ahmed Siddiqui from University of Pennsylvania, USA, Dr. Athar Ahmed Saeed from Gateshed hospital, Newcastle Upon Tyne along with other local medical experts delivered comprehensive lectures focusing diagnose and treatment to medical complications relating liver and stomach.
Answering to the questions of junior doctors during workshop, the foreign experts said that Endoscopic Ultrasound is a modern therapy wherein a detailed image of organs inside the human body like liver,
digestive system, lungs is conceived. This image is very helpful to diagnose and treat the real disease.

In his presidential address, Principal Post Graduate Medical Institute and Lahore General Hospital Prof. Ghias Un Nabi said that Endoscopic Ultrasound method is even more useful to identify and cure cancer of stomach and liver. He lamented the fact that only 5 centers for endoscopic ultrasound treatment are available in our whole country which are very few as per the ratio of population. He said that keeping in view the future challenges; Lahore General Hospital has organized this workshop so as to provide guidance to junior doctors into this therapy. He said that there is much shortage of doctors who know this medical technique and on the other hand, number of such patients is increasing rapidly. He told that the basic reason for liver and stomach related diseases is excess use of junk food.

Organizers of the workshop Dr. Israr Ul Haq Toor, Dr. Ghias Ul Hassan and Dr. Bilal Nasir told that workshop would continue till the afternoon of Saturday. The experts would impart training of Endoscopy and ERSC through CC cameras directly at Medical Unit I today on Friday. It will be a unique display which promote modern medical education in the country, they concluded.
