Lahore : The National Commission for Justice and Peace highly appreciates the canonization of Mother Teresa as a Saint by His Holiness Pope Francis at the Vatican on Sunday, September 4, 2016.
St. Teresa of Calcutta died in 1997 at the age of 87. During her life she was known for her love towards the poor and needy, her charity work and her determination towards the betterment of humanity. The great little nun’s decades of toil in the slums of Calcutta made her a “model of mercy” and example of service for all human beings, especially in restoration of human dignity with witness of her work and life.
His Excellency Bishop Dr. Joseph Arshad, Chairperson of NCJP in a statement said that Saint Teresa of Calcutta is a role model for all of us. The path that she showed us and the very morals and beliefs she lived by is a testament for all humanity. For her, human beings should live in love and peace and share their love among others.
His Excellency Bishop Dr. Joseph Arshad stated that we (human beings) should understand that love is most important and the teachings of Christ, “love thy Neighbor’ should be our sole motto. He emphasized that, today mankind is facing terrible problems of selfishness and shallowness. As Saint Teresa believed that serving others before your own self will stop the present evils, therefore, we also must follow her example. She spent hours in prayer as she believed that work could not be done without God’s love and grace.
His Excellency Bishop Dr. Joseph Arshad further expressed his gratitude to Almighty God for the gift of such a great Saint and stressed that, St. Teresa of Calcutta is a symbol of courage, love and endurance who devoted her life for the most marginalized and vulnerable people. She in fact, defended the rights of people by her humble and modest service to humankind. She is a Saint of the poor and needy. Her congregation of Sisters (Missionaries of Charity), about six thousand in number are now carrying out her mission working in 758 homes across five continents of the world.
