Punjab government has established a special reforms committee

Additional Chief Secretary Shumail Ahmad KhawajaLahore: Punjab government has established a special reforms committee under the convener-ship of Additional Chief Secretary Shumail Ahmad Khawaja to transform Punjab Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) into a vibrant organization under well structured reforms plan which include restructuring of PPRA, standardization of methodology for assessment of national procurement system to seek for accreditation from the relevant institutions who certify that to what extent best practices for public procurement have been observed in the province of Punjab.

The PPRA headed by Chief Secretary Punjab Cap.(R) Zahid Saeed as performed well during the last wheat procurement season as well as during the large scale procurement of medicines, but the reforms committee headed by Additional Chief Secretary Shamail Ahmad Khawaja will carve out a plan to higher e-professionals in the Human Resource Department of PPRA to introduce innovation through e-procurement in the province of Punjab. It was informed in the meeting that government of the Punjab makes procurement upto the tune of 800 billion rupees to 900 billion rupees per annum and it is inevitable for any government to keep close check on the procurement process according to the international standards.

The committee has suggested a package of incentives for those government officers who had ensured Excellency and total transparency in the procurement process.

Managing Director PPRA Ali Bahadur Qazi, consultants of PPRA Sohail Asad and Ali Faisal, Director PPRA Khalid Mehmood Sandhu were also present in the meeting besides Additional Secretary Finance Department Abdul Samad.
