Lahore: The National Commission for Justice and Peace, a rights based organization of Pakistan Catholic Bishops’ Conference, is deeply saddened on the assassination of renowned Qawwal Amjad Sabri on June 22, 2016 in Karachi.
Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Yousaf Mani and Executive Director Mr. Cecil Shane Chaudhry while expressing their profound grief said in a joint statement that his extraordinary contribution towards the art of Qawwali and Sufism made him a national treasure. While appreciating how music can transcend all boundaries in creating peace in society, they commended Qawwal Amjad Sabris’s efforts of promoting peace through his music and qawwali. ‘No artist can fill the vacuum created by Amjad Sabri, and we need to stand united against the forces that are out to harm us as a nation’. They pleaded to the government of Pakistan to take concrete steps in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
His Lordship Bishop Joseph Arshad, Chairperson NCJP prayed for the family, friends and fans of the deceased Qawal and said that the uncertainty of our life is sympathetic however we pray to our Lord Jesus Christ for Qawwal Amjad Sabri that may his soul rest in enteral peace and may God grant his family the strength to overcome this irreparable loss.
