Lahore: Principal Quaid-e- Azam Medical College Prof. Dr. Haroon Khursheed Pasha has said that a comprehensive and sustained campaign should be launched for public awareness regarding the hazards of rising incidence of Thalassemia:- this may save thousands of lives in our society.
He was addressing a symposium here in the conference room of Quaid-e- Azam Medical College. The symposium was attended by M.S. BVH Dr. Shahid Fraz, Director Punjab Thalassemia Project Lady Dr. Shabnam Bashir, Incharge Peadiatric Dr. Qasim Khichi, representatives of civil society and Para-medics.
Thalassemia rising incidence is a great and serious challenging of public health:-therefore, along with public awareness drive, a comprehensive mechanism should be evolved for promoting a culture of pathological test to mitigate this rising menace of health in our society he maintained.
Dr. Haroon informed the audience regarding various symptoms, different precautionary measures and the modern methods of treatment which are prevalent regarding the treatment of Thalassemia.
M.S. BVH Dr. Shahid Fraz, Punjab Thalassemia Project Director Lady Dr. Shabnam Bashir; also spoke on the occasion. They highlighted the different measures undertaken by the Government of setting up 5 state of the art centers of Thalassemia in various cities of the province.
