Lahore: Vice Chancellor Punjab University Prof. Dr. Mujahid Kamran has said that Vice Chancellor Allama Iqbal Open University Prof. Dr. Shahid Sidiqi has covered all aspects regarding educational institutions of the country in his book “Educational Policies in Pakistan”.
He expressed these views while addressing launching ceremony of the book of Dr. Shahid Sidiqi under the aegis of Punjab University’s Department of Education and Research.
Vice Chancellor Allama Iqbal Open University Prof. Dr. Shahid Sidiqi, Vice Chancellor University of Education Prof. Dr. Rauf Azam, Dean Faculty of Education Prof. Dr. Mumtaz Akhtar, Dr. Rafaqat Ali Akbar, teachers and a large number of students were present on the occasion.
Dr. Mujahid Kamran said that Dr. Shahid Siddiqui has pointed out regarding a dream in 1967 that every citizen will get minimum primary education, which has not still fulfilled. He said this is a very comprehensive book with regard to educational policies of Pakistan. He said there is no continuity in our policies as no bureaucrat remains in one department that is why desired results are not achieved.
He said that reforms should be introduced in this regard and bureaucrats should be promoted by increasing their grade within the department. He said that every teacher of Punjab University should study book of Dr. Shahid Sidiqi and students of education and research department can get maximum benefit from this book.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Shahid Sidiqi said that the basic aim of education is to bring change and development but progress means freedom of thinking, freedom of expression and freedom of election. He said that education is name of change in the life of any individual, which changes social life. He said that due to rot system, we are not producing good students. He said that there should be open discussion on ideas in educational institutions and teachers should have the courage of tolerating difference of opinion.
He said that teachers should adopt the habit of study and should also read other essays in addition to their own. It was his desire to write a book in which plan of educational policies should be produced, he added.
