International Wushu Championship starts in Lahore

International Wushu Championship strats in LahoreLahore: Director General Sports Punjab Usman Anwar inaugurated the 3-Nation International Wushu Championship at Wapda Sports Complex on Friday night. The 3-day championship will conclude on May 8, 2016.

Hosts Pakistan, Iran, Afghanistan and Lahore which was later added to the event, are the participating teams in the championship being organized under the auspices of Sports Board Punjab and City District Govt. The inauguration ceremony was attended by large number of sports enthusiasts, players and officials of all the four participating teams. Chief Guest Director General Sports Punjab Usman Anwar also inspected the march past of all the four contesting sides. Cultural performance of all the four provinces was presented and an artist also played violin to entertain the large gathering.DG SBP is giving shields to the team managers

Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Director General Sports Punjab Usman Anwar said it’s quite heartening to see international sports events in Pakistan. “The future of wushu is pretty bright in Pakistan. Wushu was one of popular games contested in Punjab Youth Festival editions,” he added.

DG SBP said: “Sports Board Punjab had a major role if foreign teams are coming to Pakistan for various international sports championships. We did hard work and invited dozens of international teams to Pakistan during the last four years”.

Highlighting the growth of sports in Punjab, DG SBP said the performance of Punjab players is open to all. “Our athletes offered handsome performances during the last four years and won multiple sports titles quite frequently. The recent Quaid-i-Azam Inter-Provincial Games in Islamabad is fresh example of Punjab’s domination in national sports championships.The Sports Board Punjab contingent scored a total of 2641 points and grabbed 136 medals in Quaid-i-Azam Inter-Provincial Games extravaganza. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was placed at number two position with 78 medals and 1331 points followed by Sindh at 3rd spot with 73 medals and 1285 points,” he explained.

DG SBP also praised City District govt for lending their support for the holding various sports events in Lahore. He also awarded souvenirs to managers of all the participating teams.
