COAS General Raheel Sharif witness 5th PACES Championship-2016

Lahore :  An intense competition was witnessed amongst Pakistan Army players during 5th PACES (Physical Agility and Combat Efficiency System) Championship-2016 that was held at Ayub Stadium, Lahore from 27 April to 6 May 2016. Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif who was the chief guest on the occasion, witnessed the finals and awarded prizes to the winners. A total no of 275 contestants participated in this event.

PACES (Physical Agility and Combat Efficiency System), is an initiative to improve the physical training regime within the Army. The programme relies on modern scientific techniques to assist each soldier in achieving requisite fitness standards by concentrating on individual rather than group based development. The system has now matured over the years producing outstanding results.

COAS appreciated the standards displayed by participants of the competition and the efforts of both trainers and trainees in achieving those standards. He said that regardless of the advances in warfare technology, the basic traits of soldiering are as important as ever, with physical fitness being of primary importance.

In the end COAS awarded individual and team prizes to the winners. In individual matches, Naik Muhammad Awais secured first position in 2 Mile run  by covering distance in 10.01 minutes. Sepoy Farooq won first position by completing combat efficiency test in 59.42 seconds. Gunner Ashfaq Hussain did 56 pull ups to clinch 1st position in pull ups match. Sepoy Naveed Ul Hassan secured first position in sit up match by doing 1948 sit ups in 30 minutes. Sepoy Ikram did 1705 push ups in 30 minutes to secure first position and also won the overall best player award of the competition. Sepoy Nasir Mahmood secured overall 2nd Position.

Rawalpindi Corps team won the 5th PACES Championship while Karachi Corps team won the 2nd Position in the competition.
